Berat is the UNESCO-listed "City of a Thousand Windows" — Ottoman-era white houses stacked up the hillside, a still-inhabited castle on top, and Albania's best wineries on the outskirts. Public transport in and out is patchy. A rental car turns Berat into the perfect base for central Albania.
We deliver to your accommodation in Berat (Mangalem, Gorica, the new town) — usually free of charge. From Tirana airport, the drive to Berat is 130 km, about 2 hours on the SH4 + SH75.
Why rent a car in Berat?
- The castle and old town are walkable — but everything else needs a car.
- Apollonia archaeological park (45 min) — Greek-Roman city, almost no tourists.
- Çobo Winery (15 min) — top Albanian wines, family-run tastings.
- Osumi Canyon (1 h) — Albania's "mini Grand Canyon".
- Tomorr Mountain National Park (1 h) — hiking and panoramic views.
- Onward to Vlorë and the Riviera — Berat is the natural stopover between Tirana and the coast.
Getting to Berat by rental
From Tirana airport: 130 km, 2 h via the SH4 to Lushnjë then SH75 to Berat. Easy drive on paved national roads. From Vlorë: 95 km, 1.5 h. From Saranda: 230 km, 3.5 h.
Parking in Berat's old town
The historic Mangalem and Gorica quarters have narrow cobbled streets — park outside and walk in. There's a free lot near the river, and several paid spots near the castle entrance. Most guesthouses arrange parking nearby.
